The longest-lasting light bulb is the Centennial light. It is located in Livermore, California. It is still giving off light in the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. It is 109 years old and has been turned off a small amount of times. Part of the reason why light bulbs burn out is caused by the turning them on and off, not by just keeping them on. Each time someone turns on and off that light switch, the filament of the bulb is heated and cooled which causes parts of the filament to expand and contract, which causes small stress cracks to develop. So every time someone turns on and off a light switch, the crack gets bigger and bigger until the bulb eventually burns out.

I think this article is amazing. I dont know much about light bulbs, but i do know that the ones I usually use burn out usually after a month. I could not imagine one of my lightbulbs lasting for over a century! I think it is pretty cool that a lightbulb made over 100 years ago has the capability to burn that long. Hopefully scientists can make lightbulbs that dont burn out as fast and save more energy soon.
It is truly amazing to see how much science has helped us in every aspect of life. I think it is very facinating to see how much science has improved our life and to think about what our lives would be like if the light bulb was never invinted. I am very curious to see how much longer this lightbulb will burn and i wonder if it will outlive me.
