Measuring Material Hotter than the Sun

March 2nd, 2010 by christbr · No Comments · Physics

Have you ever felt four trillion degrees Celsius? I know I haven’t! And neither has the sun. Three physicists from Vanderbilt University have discovered, with the use of gold nuclei, that when put in a particle accelerator, can reach a temperature 250,000 times hotter than the sun. This means that it is the hottest temperature ever created in a laboratory and the hottest temperature ever recorded on earth.

Unfortunately, this only supports the “Big Bang” theory. Physicists believe that a temperature at this level once existed in the seconds after the “big bang.” This just pushes them closer to a major discovery. Read the article here.
