Bacteria and Explosives Made Known

February 15th, 2010 by olsonra · No Comments · Physics

Lasers have become very important in the technology of our generation. In this case, scientists are using lasers to  detect different types of chemicals and bacteria. This device called the SWOrRD  can also be used to detect explosives in a battlefield. The laser wavelengths reverberate with the chemical bonds, and the scattered wavelengths produce information about the samples contents. The information is so profound that it is able to analyze the components even with a mixture of chemicals or bacteria.

This is a very important step because it can help in the everyday environment and also in military applications. The SWOrRD can be used in hospitals,  restaurants,  public transportation depots, and may other places. This could help people stay healthier and strive to keep our environment clean.  The device can also help when there is a bomb (or other explosive) threat, by scanning the building for any of the chemicals or explosives used in bombs and identifying them quickly. This new device could help make the world healthier and safer.
