Growing New Body Parts: Master Mechanism for Regeneration?

January 10th, 2010 by milesna · No Comments · Biology

A new discovery has been found in an animal, known as the zebrafish. This is a fascinating animal, it can repair damaged heart tissue and damaged structures in the eye. Unlike the zebrafish, humans only have basic regenerative abilities, so scientists hope to eventually some day develop ways to repair or even replacing damaged body parts with regeneration. The researchers briefly exposed zebrafish to intense light, which would cause it to go blind. But unlike humans, who remain blind if the damage is severe, the zebrafish can repair the damage with new nerve cells.

This was a very fascinating article to know that the zebrafish could be able to regenerate like that. This creature is a very unique fish. I say that researchers and scientists should continue with this discovery, for hope someday that scientists will find a way to make this process possible for humans.
