New Materials to Withstand Hot Stuff

January 5th, 2010 · 1 Comment · Physics

Scientists are working to improve the materials they use for scramjets. Theses scramjets have to survive supersonic and hypersonic heat. The longest flight has lasted only five seconds. They are planning to test the new materials at Mach 8 which is eight times the speed of sound (a commercial airline fliesbelow the speed of sound). The materials [...]

T-Rays May Soon Replace X-Rays

January 5th, 2010 · No Comments · Physics

“T-rays”, or terahertz, may soon render X-rays obsolete. These T-rays are part of the electromagnetic spectrum, and can perform the same tasks as X-rays, but aren’t harmful to humans. The only problem with these rays, according to Alexey Belyanin, was a “lack of suitable sources and detectors.” They didn’t have a good way of controlling these rays [...]

Periodic Super atoms!

January 5th, 2010 · No Comments · Physics

Through research, it has been shown that conglomerations of some elements atoms can produce an electronic signature that is vary similar to other different elements. So it can almost be called a form of alchemy. which in reality is nonexistent but some of its effects are not entirely impossible. This could help the world produce [...]

SUPERSONIC!

January 5th, 2010 · No Comments · Physics

In the past, scientists have experimented with scramjets (jets that go super fast) and they have only lasted 5 seconds. They are now searching for and creating materials that can withstand extreme heats. These materials have to withstand heat 3000 degrees generated by the jet going at Mach 8, for a long time. Read more [...]
