When spacecraft’s re-enter Earth’s atmosphere at ridiculously high speeds, friction causes an extreme amount of heat. Usually the spacecraft is coated in heat resistant coating or tough insulating materials. The new idea is to use a magnetic field around the spacecraft to shield it. This would be more reliable and decrease weight. Also it would be reusable unlike what is currently used, that disintegrates upon re-entry.
The magnetic shield would be created by a superconducting coil at the front of the spacecraft that would create a strong magnetic field projecting beyond the craft. However one problem is that the magnetic field would block radio signals.

Wow, this is amazing. I never thought that a magnetic field could be used to stop a re-entering space craft from burning up. I also think it is amazing that the friction from just the air could burn something. I think this is an amazing topic to choose. If scientists could accomplish this it would be an amazing breakthrough in science.
