Salmonella: Drug-Resistant Strain of Bacteria Gains in Africa, With High Death Rates

The strain, a variant of  salmonella, which is named St313.  It was decoded by researchers from Welcome Trust Sanger Institute and researchers from Kenya and Malawi. Most salmonella bacteria cause diarrhea and barely cause death,  but this one caused death in one of four cases among children and vulnerable adults in some African locations, the researchers said. Many of its victims have been weakened by the AIDS virus, anemia, malaria and/or malnutrition. So doctors and researchers are trying there best to figure out a cure for these poor children and adults in Africa. such as: sophisticated genetic sequencing machines that could spot tiny DNA mutations like the ones making this germ so deadly.
