Musical Training Leads to Enhanced Learning Abilities.

November 14th, 2009 by lambersk · 1 Comment · Physics

Recent experiments have taken place to show that children who start learning how to play a musical instrument from a young age actually show signs of enhanced learning abilities and higher levels of memory and attention than those children who had no musical training. The study says that the actual playing of the instrument helped with their brain development and led to their better learning across other sorts of areas. Laurel Trainor, director of the Institute for Music and the Mind at McMaster University in West Hamilton, Ontario, and the leader of these studies says that playing the instrument is what helped the children’s brains, not simply listening to music. I found this very interesting. I know that other studies have been done saying that babies and young children who listen to the music of classical composers like Mozart are shown to have increased brain functions. Trainor says that when you have your kid start learning how to play the instrument is actually more helpful, and they are shown to have increased learning abilities.

Having children start playing an instrument at a young age is very important to how they will learn and adapt to certain situation when they are older. Kids today are so focussed in their video games and tv, and they think that playing an instrument is for the “nerds” or “geeks” but really if they would have started playing an instruments earlier in life, this generation of kids would be much healthier. Instead of sitting in front of the tv for hours try getting up and learning how to play an instrument. Music really does make our world go round, you never know what is going to come out next in music. If your child plays an instrument or does anything to do with music, they could be the next big thing.
