World’s largest laser opens

June 14th, 2009 by johnsodk · No Comments · Uncategorized

Scientists have been searching for years on how to harness the stars energy and supply it here on Earth. The world’s largest laser at The National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. It is the size of approximately three football fields long. One hundred and ninety-two laser beams channel this laser and will deliver massive amounts of energy at very minute targets in size comparison to a marble. This massive amount of energy will ultimately combine to make hydrogen fusion energy. The target of energy will undergo one hundred million degrees and pressure one hundred billion times the Earth’s atmosphere which are similar to stars. Mimicking to try to create a star and of that energy in a laboratory. NIF as made a national security mission to ensure the reliability and safety of the U.S. nuclear stockpile without conducting underground testing.

In conclusion The National IgnitionFacility at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory which has the largest laserĀ  and is trying to conduct almost two hundred beams of laser on a target the size of a marble to produce enough energy to that of a star in our solar system that is very rich in fusion energy. This can be a great thing if done correctly I can also see these experiments not turning out one hundred percent good in the means of a testing calculation experiment for the use of thermonuclear weapons.
