The Spanish government will have to take a stand for or against the Vandellos 2 which is one of the oldestĀ nuclear power plants in Spain. The prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero whose socialist government has backed up the idea of renewable energy opposed to he nuclear energy. However the nuclear energy watchdog agreed that Garona power plant ought to get another ten year operating liscence and upgrade the safety and equipment. The chairwoman of Nuclear Safety said that the decision was taken on technical security grounds. Spain is one of the largest producers of solar power energy in the world. Although other neighboring countries such as Germany and Britain to ease their anti-nuclear stance due to oil price volatility. It will cost Spain 50 million euros to upgrade one nuclear power plant.
In conclusion I believe it would be great to get rid of the nuclear power plant and gain more solar energy and cleaner emissions and help their economy that way but at the same time you do not want to get rid of the plant because you dont want to lay of the work force either. Both sides have strong arguments and points we will see what Spain decides.
