Scientists at MIT and Brown University are studying how the segregation and change in current from right-hand bacteria from left-hand bacteria. This discovery could impact our understanding on how water microbes affect the current of the water. The two-handed quality is called chirality and in a molecule it can make the difference to healing or harming the body. These two handed molecules were used negatively in this well known instance in 1950 when the drug Thalidomide was given to pregnant women to prevent sickness but actually caused birth defects. Researchers have come up with a microfluidic environment that is the size of a small ipod that contains water and bacteria to create a straight flow of adjacent layers of water moving rapidly at different speeds.
In conclusion researchers at MIT and Brown University have come up with these two different microbes that are two handed mothions that can create a chirality in water this is a positive subject for science. So therefore now they may be contained at a more efficient level now and improve the pharmicudical world.
