A study was conducted in which a dual x-ray absorptiometry was used to make direct measures of body composition in children at four years of age whose diets had been assessed when they were babies. The data showed that infants who had been breastfed for a longer period of time had a lower fat mass rate which couldn’t be explained by differences in family background or the kid’s height. The weaning diet also seemed to have an effect on the child’s weight later in life. Weaning is described as the period of time in which a child changes from a diet of milk to solid foods. Children with a higher quality of weaning diets, including fruit, vegatables, and home-prepared foods had a greater lean mass at four years old.
This is valuable information because, with the majority of people being overweight, it is important for people to do all they can to aid their children in having a healthy life.
