Blue Whale Discovered Singing In New York Coastal Waters

May 31st, 2009 by lambersk · 1 Comment · Biology

The Blue Whale is the largest animal to have ever lived on our planet. Because of whale hunting in the middle of the 20th century, the blue whales have become extremely endangered. On January 10-11, 2009, scientists recorded the sound of a Blue Whale singing about 70 miles off the coast of Long Island, New York. At the same time another Blue Whale was heard in the distance. These whales still continue to face threats because of all the shipping going on where they live, however New York is taking action to help protect them from any more harm that we could cause them. What New York is doing to protect these whales is a great thing. We humans caused all this harm to the whales and it’s only right that we also try and bring them back from the endangerment that we put them into.

I have to agree with Sammi and say that we should do something to help endangered animals that we put in danger in the first place. The Blue Whale is an amazing creature, the largest in the world, and it is endangered of being gone forever. However, we can help. It is good that New York has started to help, and we should all follow their example.
God put creatures on the earth, and we should do our best to preserve what he has placed for us to take care of, not destroy.
