Scientists have discovered a material that can hold any substance inside of it without leakage. This barrier is made from many layers of graphine particles. It can keep even high pressures of gas sealed in including helium.
This discovery is important to us, because it could really change the meaning of airtight. It can be used in several things including helium filled balloons. It would be able to make them last for extremely long periods of time. It could also be used in several nanotech products and even as radio antennas.

Graphite is made up of billions of sheets of carbon atoms, and each individual sheet is the graphene. Graphene has many different properties, one being that electrons can flow through it without losing much energy. Another is it’s mechanical strength, which is surprising because it is so thin. Experiments have shown that the graphene can contain great amounts of pressure and are great containers. It is said that graphene can even be used as an artificial membrane, and it may even be able to form an artificial cell that could contain medicine that could be released into the body.
I think that this breakthrough can turn out to be very important. It would even give us a huge breakthrough in medicine and health care if it ended up working out.
I agree with the others about this being a great scientific breakthrough in the science world. However, moms who send their kids to school with airtight containers, hoping the plastic will stay, can also rejoice at this discovery. Now, instead of worrying about messy cleanups after their kid brings home a lunchpail with spilled food in it, they can use these graphite sheets to successfully hold in anything they send with their kids.
Along with being great for kid’s lunches, the graphite can, as watsonme said, help the medicine world. This small, thin wrapping of graphite can send in medicine to people’s bodies! That’s an exceptionally great breakthrough.
I think the use of graphite sheets will work out extremely well. It has many uses that are beneficial to our world, making it good candidate for it’s useage in our lives.
