Physics of the “Hit”

February 4th, 2009 by murillsn · No Comments · Physics

How did the steelers win the superbowl using physics? Well they used physics in many ways. Football players use different angles and acceleration to speed and centers of gravity while they play. Its very hard to get the timing right when you go for a hit. People think that all you really need to do is run at them and tackle them, but its a little more complicated. You really need to think of your timing, their timing, and the differences in your masses. Physics helps you by allowing you to use Newtons second law which is force equals mass time acceleration.

This article was very intersting. People play and watch football all the time. But what the really dont know is how physics can be tied into it in many ways. I never thought of how you need to get the right acceleration and the right angle to hit a player and do it right. Reading this article was not so bad. I never knew that physics could actually be fun to learn about. Its crazy how physics is applied to our everyday lives. :) Q3#1
