Newborns Feel the Beat

February 4th, 2009 by kronebkk · No Comments · Biology, Physics

In Hungary, researchers have found that newborn babies-as young as three days old- can identify the downbeat in music. They detect the electrical activity in the brain using electrodes affixed to the head. These electrodes pick up strong responses when the downbeat is omitted, but when other random beats are left out the responses are much weaker.

This article is very interesting to me because I think everything about the human body and its development is fascinating. It is amazing that beat perception, along with many other skills, is learned in the womb. It shows a small part of God’s complex and extraordinary creation. It is important because it is an undeniable piece of evidence for the true origin of the world and all that inhabits it. Q3 #1
