Kermit the Frog Has Some Company

Most people think that all the species on earth have already been discovered. That is far from true. New species are uncovered and discovered frequently, and yet scientists are still far from finding every species on the planet. However, scientists recently discovered ten new species of frogs in Colombia. These new species include glass frogs, which get their name from the fact that their organs can be seen through their transparent skin, poison dart frogs and frogs with spiky skin.

These new discoveries could lead to strengthening the habitats and the protected areas of this country. A generous portion of the regions in Colombia are being threatened by activities like hunting, mining, and people cutting down trees. The area is teeming with life and is full of thousands of species, so the more protection it receives, the better.

Read more about these new species, their names, and how they were discovered here.

So not all species have been discovered yet?

That means that scientists don’t know anything for sure, right? Even with theories of what animals have existed, they could be wrong. But does that mean that if they don’t know all of the animals that live on earth they don’t know all of the origins of species, right?
