In the words of Bob the Builder, “Yes we can!” At least it may very well become a reality. According to a new study by Rice University bioengineers, they predict exactly how evolution is affected by the exchange of entire genes and sets of genes. Now when most people think of a virus they think of disease and sickness, but these bioengineers decided to look at viruses at a different angle. The bioengineers at Rice University have come up with a formula to use the viruses to basically to benefit us. The complex formula generally is being used to “design drugs that speed up the mutation rates of viruses and push them beyond a threshold called a “phase transition”. What it means for the less intelligent like myself, or people not as smart as Mr. Faust, is that scientists are trying to mutate a virus to benefit humans or to completely removing the virus altogether. How great would that be? GREAT!
I think mutating viruses to death was a great idea and I wish I could have come up with that idea but I didn’t. It’s amazing how God created man’s brains to achieve such knowledge and use it for mankind’s advantage. Then again isn’t killing viruses to death a sin because God put them on the earth for a reason and we are destroying his creation? Or are viruses a result of sin and not God’s work? I don’t know so I will ask Mr. Faust tomorrow.
Paul brings about a great point in this article. It is amazing what scientists can do with the continued advantages in technology. This is really something that scientists can learn from and continue on and make bigger strides in this area. Mutating viruses for our own benefit was something i didn’t even think was possible.
I think an interesting thing would be if scientists were able to mutate or counter-react the viruses we commonly get that make us sick so we could rid of them quickly. If this was possible, it would save people time and money. If this was even possible, people would be able to get back to their normal lives quicker and save money because they wouldn’t miss much work because of being sick. This discovery could be very beneficial to us.
