Man’s Best Friend Recruted in Hunt For Disease Genes

October 22nd, 2008 by christbr · No Comments · Biology

We all knew that man’s best friend was close to us but we never knew that they were this close… Scientists have recently found that dogs and humans share some diseased genes and now those scientists are trying to find a better like between humans and dogs. They are actually being used to find genetic mutations that lead to disease in humans. To read more visit this site.

Many dogs could carry the same the same genetic base for diseases in humans which is what caused this discovery. 20 animal schools from around Europe are participating in this trial which they will collect 10,000 strands of DNA from 10,000 dogs which are being affected by common diseases that are found in humans. If the DNA is a match for the diseases in humans they can be used to help treat those diseases; some as potent as canser.
