Ethanol

September 24th, 2008 by dangln · No Comments · Chemistry

Ethanol is a volatile, flammable, colorless liquid. It is found in thermometers and alcohol beverages. It is known as alcohol, and EtOH. Ethanol has widespread use as a solvent of substance used for humans, including scents, flavorings, colorings, and medicines. It is used as a feed stock.

Ethanol is a volatile, flammable, colorless liquid that has a strong odor. When it burns it is smokeless and has a blue flame that you can not usually see in the light.Ethanol-water solutions that contain less than 50% ethanol may also be flammable if the solution is first heated. Some cooking methods call for wine to be added to a hot pan, causing it to flash boil into a vapor, which is then ignited to burn off excess alcohol.
