The first pigs containing genes responsible for Alzheimer's disease were born in Denmark around August and September. This special time was a landmark achivement in the effort towards finding a cure for the disease. Scientists from the universities of Copenhagen and Arhus, Denmark are now finishing up on this biotechnology. But this time with cloned pigs that have been genetically modified so that they can function as animal models for Alzheimer's disease. In the US only, 5 million people suffer from this human Alzheimer's and globally the number is set at about 24 million.
