Papaya Clone

April 24th, 2008 by smithcr · 4 Comments · Biology

Scientists have succesfully cloned a papaya tree that has yielded many fruits. The papaya is not the first plant to be succesfully cloned, but the fifth. Its yielding of fruits shows that scientists can grow food from trees that were confirmed extinct a while ago if they can figure out the genome of the tree.

This article shows that even though God intended for some trees to be extinct, he gave the humans he created the mind power to figure out how to bring these trees back. With this knowledge, we might see the first human clone in the near future.

An interesting concept! Bringing extinct species back into existence. Kind of a Jurassic Park for plants.

If the DNA is intact, or can be reconstructed, this is certainly very doable for plants.

Do you think God intended some plants to be extinct, or was it a result of a sinful world???

This article emphasized developing strains of papaya that are resistant to disease. This would truly be be beneficial to help countries with hungry populations.

    Good article!

This is super cool, because papaya is yummy

Well if they can clone types of food maybe we could clone enough food to solve world hunger?

and if that happen why cant we just clone people that would be so cool!!!!

thats all the insight I have been I think it is beneficial

Papaya cloning was definetely an interesting topic for me. It is really amazing that with science, technology, and knowledge, scientists are able to clone things. As the peoples before me said it is a very beneficial thing. Especially for times when our world can lack food.
Cloning stuff like food may actually be a good thing because we can benifit from it. We can also help many other countries that don’t have that much technology to learn how to clone. As food from cloned plants would sell our country may even be able to donate money from the selled cloned food to countries that need financial help.
I found this real interesting because besides the fact that there is a plant exactly like another one it helps our economy and our world. Papaya is a very good fruit but I don’t like it, therefore we can donate it to other people who like papaya so that they can grow healthy and strong. =) May the Lord bless you.

I, personally hate papayas, but this is pretty cool. I agree that it is amazing when science and technology get together great things can be made, or in this case, cloned. I was very intreged when i saw the headline “papaya clone”. Many scientist are finding so many new ways to help the earth. I think that this technique should be used all around the world so that many starving people, like in africa, can eat.
